Can you tell me about the exam papers and what my child will have to be able to do?

The test has four sections and your child will take all of the exams on the same day. At the Isca School of English, they will take it at the end of their three week intensive preparation course.

1) Reading and Use of English (1 hour 30 minutes) 8 parts/ 56 questions

The exam shows that your child is able to deal confidently with different types of text, such as fiction and newspapers. They will also be tested on their knowledge about grammar & vocabulary in order for the examiners can see how well-versed they really are when it comes down those two important aspects!

2) Writing (1 hour 30 minutes)  2 parts

When your child takes this exam, it’s important to remember that there are two different types of writing assignments. For example an essay would be a piece written in response or reaction from something else whereas letters/emails can simply communicate information with no narrative attached at all!

3) Listening (approximately 40 minutes)        4 parts/30 questions

During the listening exam, your child will have to show that they are able to follow and understand a range of spoken materials such as interviews, radio broadcasts or presentations.

4) Speaking (15 minutes per pair of candidates)

The C1 Speaking Exam tests a candidate’s ability to communicate effectively in person. You’ll have to work with another student, so it’s important that both they learn how to best respond to the questions asked as a team!

Your child will receive an individual level for each of the exams that they take. Their overall grade will be an average and they will be given a specific level on the CEFR Scale.
