General English Summer Courses for Juniors aged 12-14

Your English language programme is action-packed, with lessons, educational activities, sports, social activities and excursions all included in the cost.

You will learn in a small multi-national class and follow a course specially designed for your age group.  Each class group has two teachers each day, who work together to plan your course. They choose exciting topics and use a variety of materials and activities in their lessons to help you develop and improve your English.

You will take our English level test before you arrive, so that we can plan your classes and your teachers can begin to plan your course for you and your group. You will start learning on your first morning at Isca!

You will:

  • develop your listening, reading, writing and speaking skills.
  • improve your speaking by doing pair work, group activities and role-plays.
  • activate the grammar and structures that you have learnt at school.
  • learn new grammar and linguistic structures.
  • enjoy project work in Exeter’s historic city centre and on the quayside.
  • have fun learning English!

How do my teachers make sure that I am learning and improving my English?

Your teachers will monitor your performance in class and give you feedback during lessons. You will have regular homework and a weekly progress test.

In your first week, you will have a one-to-one tutorial with your main teacher who will give you tailored advice about how you can improve and the language areas you need to work on to become more fluent.

The provision meets the section standard and exceeds it in some respects. The teaching and academic staff are appropriately qualified and teachers receive very good support to ensure their teaching meets the needs of their students. Programmes of study are engaging and challenging, appropriate for a summer programme for young learners. The teaching observed met the requirements of the Scheme. Academic management, Course design, Learner management and Teaching are areas of strength.

To do this placement test ahead of the language stay is really great. As you mentioned you don’t lose the first day and your teachers know what language levels they can expect. Noah is looking very much forward to coming to Exeter and your school and my husband and I to seeing you and your school at the end of his stay.

We just wanted to thank you for the positive experience our daughter had. Everything was taken with care, very clear communication when we needed initial information. Needless to say she improved her confidence with the English Language and even more important she gained confidence in herself, we are convinced this experience will be a real milestone for the rest of her education process.
