Saturday Excursions
At Isca School of English, we believe learning happens outside of the classroom too. Every Saturday, students get to explore the best of the UK. These excursions offer them the chance to be immersed in British culture, visit iconic landmarks, and practice English in real-world settings. Whether it’s exploring historic cities, enjoying outdoor adventures, or visiting cultural attractions, our Saturday excursions provide unforgettable experiences that make studying English both fun and enriching. Each summer we visit places such as:
Bath
A renowned UNESCO World Heritage City, is one of the top destinations we take our students to experience.
Isca Walking Tour
During our walking tour, students explore the city’s most historic and breathtaking sights,
learning about its rich history, stunning architecture,
and the famous figures who shaped its past.
Roman Baths
A highlight of the trip is visiting the Roman Baths, where students enjoy an engaging audio tour
(in English, of course!) to discover how the Romans discovered the natural hot springs,
built a temple to Minerva,
and created the iconic Roman Bath House.
Free Time
After the tour, students can try the mineral-rich water from the fountain
before having some free time to shop and explore Bath’s vibrant city center.
One of South West’s most recognisable tourist attractions,
the Eden Project,
near Bodelva, Cornwall,
consists of gigantic biodomes
that contain the largest indoor rainforest
on planet Earth.
The students will be able to experience
the heat from the tropical biome
of the rainforest,
where they can learn about:
- biodiversity
- environmental sustainability
- efforts to conserve
the rainforest biome.
And for those who crave a challenge,
they’re able to
ascend to the top
of the biome for
an awesome bird’s-eye view
of the awards jungle underneath.
Out of the rainforest (plantation),
it will be time for the students
to mentally work off their energy
through an outdoor adventure,
with this year’s favorite adventure being
the very heart racing gravity swing –
the perfect way to end the day!
Stonehenge is one of the most iconic and mysterious landmarks in the UK, attracting visitors from around the world. When the weather allows, we take our students on an unforgettable visit to this ancient stone circle, where they can marvel at its massive stones and learn about its rich history. The site’s origins remain shrouded in mystery, making it an exciting and educational experience. Students can explore the visitor center, discover fascinating archaeological insights, and take in the breathtaking views of the surrounding Wiltshire countryside.
We also travel to the historic city of Salisbury, just a short distance from Stonehenge. Known for its stunning medieval architecture, Salisbury is home to the magnificent Salisbury Cathedral, which boasts the tallest spire in the UK and houses one of the original copies of the Magna Carta. The city’s charming streets are filled with vibrant markets, independent shops, and cozy cafes, making it a great place for students to relax, explore, and soak in the local atmosphere. Salisbury also offers a wealth of museums, gardens, and historic sites, making it an ideal destination to complement the awe-inspiring visit to Stonehenge.
The coastal village of Tintagel in Cornwall is best known as the legendary birthplace of King Arthur’s Castle,
offering a dramatic backdrop of cliffs and ruins rich in myth and history.
After spending time at the ancient castle site and taking photos with spectacular cliffside views,
students will head to Bude,
a stunning seaside town famed for its idyllic beaches.
At Bude,
you can swim and sunbathe in natural sea pool areas with lifeguard cover
or golden sands –
the ideal introduction to the breathtaking Cornish coastline.

Students can hike through the moors, spot wildlife such as ponies and birds, and enjoy the peaceful isolation of one of England’s most stunning national parks.
Our Student’s safety is vital. Before taking students to visit locations we do a full site visit and undertake our own risk assessment and consider the procedures staff need to follow on the day. Before the trip staff accompanying the trip are given a full briefing about what to expect and do. On the day, you are given a handout with information about what you are going to see and do but also what to do in case of an emergency. We make sure everyone has either a working phone or is with our social staff member during free time on our trips. We have a qualified first aider accompanying our excursions.
If it rains and we are going somewhere that is mainly outdoors we will normally change the destination. Normally we would do this a few days in advance of the weekend and make sure you know why we are changing it. We want you to have fun even if it rains sometimes!
