Saturday Excursions
Each summer we visit places such as:
- Bath. Bath is a well known tourist destination in the UK and we love taking our students to visit this beautiful UNESCO World Heritage City. We take you on our “Isca Walking Tour” to visit some of the most historic and spectacular parts of the city and learn about the architecture and people who lived there. You will visit the famous Roman Baths and enjoy an audio tour (in English of course!) to learn about how the Romans found the natural heated spring and built a temple to Minerva and Roman Bath House. You can also drink the water from the fountain before leaving to have a little bit of shopping time with your friends in Bath’s wonderful city centre.
- the Eden Project in Cornwall where giant biodomes house the largest indoor rainforest in the world is one of the most important toursit attractions of the south west. You will enjoy the tropical heat of the rain forest, learn about biodiversity, the environment and take the challenge of climbing to the top of the biome to look down on the jungle. At the end of the day you go on an exciting adventure sports experience – this year students loved the gravity swing!
- The Ocean city of Plymouth with its incredible Marine History allows students to engage with local traditions. You will see the Pilgrim Father’s steps from where the Mayflower set sail 400 years ago this year and go on a boat trip across Plymouth Sound but not to the New World! You will have a walking tour, see Smeaton’s lighthouse, walk across the Hoe and relax with an amazing ice-cream – just watch out for seagulls!
- the coastal village of Tintagel in Cornwall is the dramatic setting for mythical King Arthur’s Castle. After visiting the castle ruins and a photo opportunity on the cliffs, we travel on to the town of Bude where you can swim in the natural sea pool or in the areas where the life guards are on duty or sunbathe on the amazing sandy beach.
You can also choose to come on our train trip to London. Find out more here.
Tuesday Afternoon Excursions
We will take you to the coast to have a swim, play volleyball and walk along the Jurassic coast on our half-day excursion. We also visit the beautiful countryside of Devon one of the most popular holiday destinations in England. Each summer we visit such places as:
- Torquay and the English Riviera famous for Agatha Christie
- Sidmouth and the Jurassic Coast
- Exmouth for sea swimming and beach volleyball
- Dartmoor National Park, which inspired Conan Doyle to write Sherlock Holmes “Hound of the Baskervilles”
Our Student’s safety is vital. Before taking students to visit locations we do a full site visit and undertake our own risk assessment and consider the procedures staff need to follow on the day. Before the trip staff accompanying the trip are given a full briefing about what to expect and do. On the day, you are given a handout with information about what you are going to see and do but also what to do in case of an emergency. We make sure everyone has either a working phone or is with our social staff member during free time on our trips. We have a qualified first aider accompanying our excursions.
If it rains and we are going somewhere that is mainly outdoors we will normally change the destination. Normally we would do this a few days in advance of the weekend and make sure you know why we are changing it. We want you to have fun even if it rains sometimes!
